Jaguars bringing in potential competition for Jason Myers

Quarterback Blake Bortles wasn't the only Jaguar that struggled on Thursday night. Kicker Jason Myers missed a field goal and an extra point against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Through two preseason games Myers has now missed three of four field-goal attempts.

"I was disappointed, obviously," said Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone when asked was it time to bring in competition for Myers.

Sam Kouvaris: Jaguars quarterback problem persists

It's often called "the most important position in sports." A starting quarterback in the NFL can elevate or diminish a team's chances every time he takes the field. It's why they're overpaid in free agency and over-valued in the draft.

Looking back at the 2014 draft, the Jaguars took Blake Bortles as the third pick and the first quarterback selected Forget about "they should have taken Khalil Mack" or any of the other hindsight comments, but rather just look at the quarterbacks taken in that draft.

Jaguars open up QB competition after 12-8 loss to Bucs

Blake Bortles' career in Jacksonville could be nearing an end.

Coach Doug Marrone opened up the team's quarterback job after Bortles' latest inconsistent performance Thursday night, giving Chad Henne a chance to start.

"I'm looking for someone who is going to lead this offense," Marrone said. "I'm not happy with the performance. I'm not going to sit here and BS anyone. Everyone saw it out there. Whatever you want to call it, I'm still trying to evaluate who the best person is at that position."

Blake Bortles did not have a good night

Typically at the end of a Jaguar game, I take my time and think through my takeaways from the four quarters of play. Not tonight. I'm writing this during halftime of the Jaguar Buccaneer preseason game because I've seen what I think will be a significant development at the quarterback position.

I'm not making any predictions as to who starts the season for us. But I believe it will be very interesting as to who gets the first string reps this week.
