Senior PML-N leaders meet Army chief in Rawalpindi: sources

RAWALPINDI: Senior leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, sources told Geo News on Thursday.

According to the sources, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the Army chief at his residence earlier this evening. The meeting discussed the current situation in the country.

Political wrangling pushes PSX-100 below 40,000 mark

KARACHI: Political heat is melting the Pakistan Stock Exchange 100-index down. Heightened political anxiety kept investors from buying and those holding positions opted to take an exit.

It was only seven days ago, on October 20, when the index closed at its all-time high of 41,545. But since then, in a matter of just six working days, the benchmark index has lost 1,558 points to close below 40,000 level.

KPT signs agreement with NCMPR Bahria University Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) signed on Thursday agreement with the National Centre of Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), Bahria University Campus, Karachi at KPT Head Office.

The signing of agreement was meant for the establishment of KPT Chair for cooperation enhancement as well as for interaction to prevail between academia and the maritime industry of Pakistan.

Turkey orders detention of 73 air force pilots

ANKARA: Turkish authorities ordered the detention of 73 air force pilots as part of the probe into the group blamed for July's failed coup, state media reported Thursday.

At least 45 had already been detained after police operations began Thursday across the country including the central Konya province and the capital Ankara, the official Anadolu news agency said.

Police round up two political workers from outside Lal Haveli

RAWALPINDI: Police on Thursday night apprehended two political activists from outside Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi.

The workers were taken into custody from outside the Lal Haveli. They were reportedly dragged before being thrown into police vehicles present on the spot.

Earlier, there was a police crackdown during a convention of the PTI's youth wing in Islamabad. Several members of the party's youth wing were arrested. 

Exchange of fire continues on working boundary, LoC

RAWALPINDI: Intense and heavy exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani forces continued along the working boundary and the Line of Control (LoC) on Thursday.

The heavy exchange of fire continued since 8 pm Thursday in Shakargarh sector along working boundary.

"Pakistani Rangers befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing," said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

On Pakistani side, one civilian woman was killed and seven other civilians were injured in Indian shelling.

Putin slams claims Russia meddling in US polls as ´hysteria´

Sochi: President Vladimir Putin slammed as "hysteria" Thursday claims that Russia has tried to interfere in the upcoming US presidential elections by hacking US political institutions including the Democrats behind frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

Russia has been accused of favouring Republican candidate Donald Trump -- who has praised Putin and called for better relations with Moscow -- over the more hawkish Clinton.

Pakistan to expel Indian HC official as diplomatic row worsens

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday declared Indian diplomatic official Surjeet Singh persona non grata (PNG) hours after India expelled a Pakistan embassy staffer over espionage allegations.

According to Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria, Surjeet Singh was asked to leave over violation of Vienna Convention and diplomatic etiquettes.

Putin says US hysteria over Russia an election ploy

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday American politicians were whipping up hysteria about a mythical Russian threat in the US presidential campaign as a ploy to distract voters from their own failings.

Putin, addressing an audience of foreign policy experts gathered in southern Russia, said he found it hard to believe that anyone seriously thought Moscow was capable of influencing the Nov. 8 election.

Pakistan declares Indian official Persona non Grata

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday declared an official of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad as Persona non Grata.

According to Foreign Office spokesman, the Foreign Secretary summoned the Indian High Commissioner and conveyed the decision of the government of Pakistan to declare Surjeet Singh, an official of the Indian High Commission as persona non grata.

The Foreign Secretary expressed deep concern over the activities of the Indian official that were in violation of the Vienna Convention and the establisheddiplomatic norms.
